In honour of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the EU project RESET – Redesigning Equality and Scientific Excellence Together hosted the event “Women in Science: Intersectional and International Perspectives on Scientific Careers”, centred on the early stages of women’s scientific careers.

At the event, the ATHENA project was represented by Marlene Santacruz, a member of Consulta Europa’s project coordination team. In her presentation, Marlene emphasized the project’s overall goal, consortium distribution, timeline and progress, as well as the ATHENA resources of the ATHENA e-platform. Furthermore, at the end of the presentation, the challenges and recommendations for implementing the GEPs were discussed.

During the event, there were discussions with women researchers about strategies for building a career in science. The opening keynote and panel discussion centred on the intersection of gender and upward educational mobility, with an emphasis on female academics from the first generation. Separate sessions comprised the second interactive portion of the event. The purpose of the breakout sessions was to allow participants to discuss academic career development issues with seasoned scientists, advisors, and science administrators.

The online event attracted a sizable audience. It was designed specifically for early-career female scientists and those interested in providing impetus for the advancement of equal opportunities in science.
