Institute for Research in Social Communication of the Slovak Academy of Sciences facilitated a training about gender and gender inequalities
As part of the ATHENA gender training programme for the internal institutional staff, the Institute for Research in Social Communication of the Slovak Academy of Sciences facilitated an online training on gender and gender inequalities, on May 13, 2022.
The training was delivered within the framework of module 1 “Introduction to Gender Equality,” which aimed to provide participants with basic Gender Equality (GE) information. In this session, Ľubica Rozborová, gender expert and founder & CEO at RISOTO, presented a wide range of theoretical information on gender/sex terminology, gender socialization, gender roles, expectations, horizontal and vertical segregation, glass ceiling, glass elevator, and gender in institutions topics during the session. Furthermore, possible individual or structural strategies for combating gender inequalities were discussed.
It was offered a theoretical foundation for gender and gender inequalities, as well as examples of best practices, videos, and suggested tools to promote GE. Following that, the participants were given the opportunity to express themselves freely through a moderated discussion using the Socratic method.
High and middle management, professors, researchers, administrative professionals, and students were among the 27 people who attended the session. They have expressed their opinions on the GE issue, and there is a strong possibility that they will become a multiplicator of the GE teachings.
